The innovativeCentre of Historical Information of Thermopylae is located near the monument of king Leonidas. When visiting the centre, one can roam the three halls and through multilingual virtual guides with 3D image and sound, travel 2500 years back in time, using cutting edge technology. Young and old history enthusiasts are invited to experience a unique, multilingual and interactive fight of the Thermopylae against the Persians.
Centre of Historical Information of Thermopylae
The interactive Centre of Historical Information of Thermopylae is located near the monument of king Leonidas. The innovative museum with its unique design opened its doors to the public in August 2010.
The building resembles an arrowhead pointing towards the side where the Persians entered Thermopylae. The Centre runs ancillary to the archaeological site providing information to the visitors about the battle of Thermopylae and the lie of the land, since it has undergone significant geological alterations.
Three halls named “Leonidas”, “Dienekes” and “Thermopylae” can take the visitors back 2500 years, while historical information is presented through multilingual virtual guides with 3D image and sound.
In the same hall a permanent photography exhibition is on display. It is entitled “Marinatos at Thermopylae” and covers the excavation in Thermopylae by professor SpyridonasMarinatos in the summer of 1939. An integral part of the exhibition is the pattern representing the battle, constructed by the Military Geographical Service in 1955 with guidance from professor Marinatos, as part of the unveiling ceremony of the statue of Leonidas in Thermopylae.
