Municipal Regional Theater of Roumeli
One of the significant cultural landmarks in the city of Lamia, with a direct cultural impact, is the Municipal Regional Theater of Roumeli. In 1985, with the performance of "The Yard of Miracles" by Iakovos Kampanellis, it solidified its presence as the Municipal Regional Theater of Roumeli and has been continuously active ever since. Its three stages facilitate the support of numerous original productions. Since 1998, it has established the "Festival for Solo Performers and Leading Actors." Additionally, it operates the Theater Workshop along with the Amateur Stage.
Municipal Regional Theater of Roumeli
The Municipal Regional Theater of Roumeli serves as a hub of culture, creative expression, entertainment, and education for the citizens of Lamia. The first performance at the Lamia Municipal Theater took place in 1961 by a troupe from the National Theater, starring KyveliAndrianou in GregoriosXenopoulos's play "The Secret of Countess Valeraina."
It became part of the network of Municipal and Regional Theaters under the Ministry of Culture in 1983, and in 1985, with the play "The Yard of Miracles" by IakovosKampanellis, it solidified its presence. Since then, it has been continuously active, staging numerous original productions and productions by local amateur groups.
Since 1998, the Municipal Regional Theater of Roumeli has established the "Festival for Solo Performers and Leading Actors," hosting performances of theatrical monologues. Its main aim is to establish a close connection between the audience and the actor, creating intense emotional moments and theatrical experiences.
The Municipal Regional Theater of Roumeli comprises the Central, Experimental, and Children's Stages. The venues for these stages include the Lamia Municipal Theater, the Lamia Municipal Summer Theater, and the theater hall of the 1st Vocational High School of Lamia.
It operates a Theater Workshop along with an Amateur Stage, offering lessons in acting, improvisation, and diction. This allows both young and adult theater enthusiasts to explore new forms of expression and contribute their own artistic touch to the city's cultural mosaic.
Furthermore, the theater is known for its outreach activities, including tours that are regularly conducted in various parts of Greece and abroad. It also hosts film screenings during the summer months and accommodates various cultural and scientific events across all its stages.
